Content Creation Tips 1

Feeling stuck when you’re trying to create content?

It’s not a pleasant feeling!

And no matter how long you sit at your desk, desperately trying to get the words on the page, it doesn’t happen.

You’ve got your “to-do” and “must-do” list close by.

The “create 3 blog posts and promote them” have been on them for over 2 weeks.

But how many have you written?

None!

It’s a terrible feeling when you need to create content but nothing is happening.

You’re not procrastinating by cleaning the house or checking social media updates.

You’re at your screen or sitting with your journal, pen at the ready – but nothing comes…

So you you sit there in a quagmire of emotions that fluctuate from desperation to anxiety to wondering if you can actually even write.

Here’s what I do when I feel like I’m stuck in mud – like everyone else is blitzing the content creation world but me.

I stop trying so hard.

I stop searching so hard for the perfect headline, the perfect subject, the perfect “thing” that will make me stand out from the crowd. I stop.

And with this pause I allow myself to feel the frustration, anger and “everyone else is better at content creation than I am” fully.

If this sounds like a totally weird thing to do, consider this.

We avoid taking a break, a full stop,  a pause to feel the anger and frustration because we fear that if we stop, we will never get started again!

But here’s what I’ve discovered…

In that moment of actually feeling the white hot frustration coursing from your heart into your body, a wave of relief arrives.

A relief that you’re not actually stuck – that you just need to lighten up and to stop trying so hard…all the time.

With this relief comes a deeper understanding, that all the time spent trying and pushing has made you exhausted.

So why not take a day off from the pushing and fretting?

Give yourself time and space to nap on the couch, to visit a cafe, to take your dog to their favourite beach.

And as the space widens, you can soften and relax.

You intuition and creativity have room to breathe, to pour forth their wisdom and ideas.

So stop trying so hard.

Allow yourself to stop and let the massive cloud of fear and doubt dissipate.

Give yourself permission to open up to the possibility that relentless pushing and striving doesn’t always get you to the end goal.

And in the space of stopping, invite clarity and a sweet sense of relief in – it’s time to be kind to yourself, so just stop.
